Another month, another playlist. Even though I am a bit late (khmm, a week late) with this post it's been on my to-do list for two weeks but sadly never got around to actually putting it together. But, here we are, better late than never! It's just been so hectic, July was weirdly one of those months that lasted two months for me, while everyone else around me said it whizzed away for them. Idk if that's a good or bad thing, but there's one thing I do know - August will be bittersweet. Quick July recap - partied, travelled, had the usual extreme self-doubt moment(s), made some impulse decisions and reunited with friends. Oh, and discovered a lot of new awesome music, and by a lot, I mean A LOT. It was difficult narrowing down the list because otherwise, it would have been at least 20 songs long. So, here are my final picks for July:
I adore Mura Masa's music, it's like your day instantly gets better when you listen to it. Like, you can't stop yourself from wanting to dance when you hear the catchy beat. That's exactly the case with his latest single "Move Me" feat. Octavian. And once again, just like any other of Mura Masa's videos, this one is soo cool and perfectly fits the chill dance vibe of the song.
Goldsmoke - All Falls Down
Goldsmoke's "All Falls Down" was one of those random finds that were meant to be. This song was played as an ad before a video I was watching and it immediately grabbed my attention. I quickly found their entire EP on Soundcloud and I definitely recommend it!
Up next is probably the grooviest song on the playlist. "Just Friends" is a cool summer track that always manages to make me smile, and when I'm in the need of a pick-me-up I instantly know which song to play first. Hayden James is on my "artists to listen to more" list, and this dude should be on yours too.
TEEMID's remix of "If you had my love" feat. Alva Heldt has been my go-to song when working, it's the right amount of chill and groove in one track. I love deep house music, it's a shame there's little to no parties especially for this genre in Skopje.
Just when I thought this month couldn't get any better music-wise, Donald Glover decided to release not ONE, BUT TWO SONGS! I legit freaked out when I saw them in my sub box, and even though at first I was a bit confused, like why is he releasing these summer-themed songs when his previous song was a literal political statement (?), after looking into the meaning behind the songs I came to appreciate Donald's genius once again. Global warming, pollution and overgrowing population in one song, people ignoring the obvious problems in the other - "Summer Pack" is the perfect mix of awareness and subtlety.
I don't think there's a person who hasn't heard (or been obsessed with) this song. "Friends" from The Carters is just a total "vibe with me because my friends are REALLY the coolest" kind of song, and I'm here for it!
Ta-ku & Wafia - American Girl
My love for Ta-ku grows with each passing moment, but his twist on Estelle's "American Boy" called "American Girl" featuring Wafia is one of the best things I've heard from him so far.
The story of how I found this song is as 2018 as it can get: I saw an Instagram story where Bonobo performed this song at a festival and immediately pulled out Shazam to find out the name of it. I guess you could say it was meant to be haha. And what did I find when I Youtube searched "Kerala" for the first time? A super cool video concept that blew my mind. I highly suggest you watch the video, and a pro tip: Blink according to the beat of the song, that's what makes the whole experience even better!
And with that another monthly playlist is done. You can click HERE for the YT playlist, or on each individual title above. Happy listening!
